Intentional Living

When I got married last year one of the guests came up to me during the reception and said, “If you want a long and happy marriage make sure you tell your wife every day ‘I love you’.”

And I have. I have intentionally made this a habit and the results have been amazing!

Intentional Living 7 days

I actually have an index card on my desk titled ‘Every day…’ It reminds me to take specific actions every day…to stand up from my desk every hour and walk around for 5 minutes, to encourage someone, to call a friend or family member, and in every situation take the high road.

In fact, I have several index cards on my desk that remind me of intentional actions to take in different areas of my life…it places me at the correct end of the cause and effect continuum. We reap what we sow.

There is a Spanish proverb that says: “Sow a thought and reap an act. Sow an act, and reap a habit. Sow a habit, and reap a character. Sow a character and reap a destiny.”

If we know the seed we are sowing and are intentional about what we want to reap then we have a life of significance to look forward to.

John Maxwell launched a new book this month called ‘Intentional Living’ that is accompanied by a 7-day intentional living experiment. In it he talks about specific intentional actions to move from success to a life of significance. In essence, you’ll be mimicking what he has learned over the last 40 years.

P.S. I’ve gone through the 7-day experiment and am now moving through his 30-day journey to significance. I have a new index card titled ‘Intentional Living’
